Started as a passion project, Expat. Roasters is a specialty coffee producer driven by a desire to produce an exceptional, unpretentious brew, from the ground up.
Expat. Roasters works closely and respectfully with local Indonesian farmers and producers to source the finest local product to compliment their nomadic collection of beans from around the globe.
Led by their award-winning* head barista Shae Macnamara*, Expat. Roasters are working hard to foster the burgeoning coffee and barista community of Bali. Introducing the culture of making a good brew across the island, one cup at a time.
We work closely with local Indonesian producers and farmers to source the finest quality beans. Working directly with the farmers within 40 kilometers from our roastery, We are hands on with over 50 farming families. This allows us to experiment with processing methods and farming technique to ultimately produce the best coffee available. Over 95% of our beans are sourced within Indonesia with a small amount of specialty coffee hand selected from our global brokers.

With more 15 years industry experience, Shae has travelled extensively throughout Europe, USA and Asia learning the art coffee cultures and working in coffee.
He has consulted on cafe openings across Sydney and is heavily involved in industry events across the country. He is also on the board of the Australian Speciality Coffee Association (ASCA) is accredited for sensory and technical judging.
Shae holds the position as a head judge for the Golden Bean Awards, and has judged at the National and State Barista Championships, as well as many other barista and coffee competitions across Australia.
